The short answer

Distribute a rack load across the approved supports while keeping its center of mass low and centered. Weight at the far end of a bar or high above a bed can create leverage and sway that a simple scale total does not capture. Use the lowest applicable rating and the exact installation configuration.

Place the load symmetrically where the instructions allow, use separate straps, secure loose ends, and stop at the first sign of movement. Do not make a custom spacer, extension, or support to “spread” a load without engineering or manufacturer approval.
