The best bed liner depends on one decision: removable or permanent. A drop-in liner is a molded plastic shell made for one truck and bed, and it lifts out when you want the bed back. A roll-on kit is a coating you brush and roll onto the bed yourself, and the makers describe it as permanent once cured. DuraLiner and Rugged Liner are the drop-in picks here. Herculiner’s two kits and Dupli-Color Bed Armor are the roll-on picks.
If you only want to protect the floor, a mat may be enough; our truck bed mat vs spray-in liner comparison covers that choice, and the non-slip truck bed mat shortlist lists mats. This page is for full-bed protection.

1. DuraLiner Premium Drop-In Bedliner
Best for: a removable drop-in liner matched to your truck by part number
DuraLiner is Penda’s drop-in brand, and its 2026 application guide lists a separate liner, tailgate liner and install kit for each truck, bed length and bed option. The guide splits parts by details such as cargo management, bed lights, power outlets and Ford’s Power to the Box, and marks each liner as under-rail or over-rail. That level of detail is the reason to start here: you can match a part number before ordering instead of guessing from a bed length.
Penda says its liners are thermoformed plastic between 0.19 and 0.2 inches thick, with a ribbed texture that helps drain water, and that installation averages 5 to 15 minutes. DuraLiner lists a no-drill installation with tie-down hole caps, molded-in board holders and tailgate cupholders, and says the material resists gasoline, oils and most chemicals. Penda’s FAQ says its liners can go over an existing spray-on coating.
The trade-off: like any drop-in, it is a separate shell, so fit depends on the exact part and how it sits against the bed
Before ordering, find your truck, bed length and bed options in DuraLiner’s Fit My Truck tool or application guide
2. Rugged Liner Truck Bedliner
Best for: a drop-in liner with 2x4 inserts for two-tier stacking
Rugged Liner lists custom-molded, vehicle-specific liners in high-density polyethylene with a non-pooling floor. Its standout detail is 2-by-4 inserts that let you stack cargo on two levels. The maker says its liners also cover the front rail and tailgate, and that they are assembled in Missouri.
Its warranty page is unusually direct about drop-in limits. It warns that a wet liner can be slippery, that an improperly installed liner can become airborne, and that you should check that the liner is secure before each trip. It also excludes rust or damage caused by the liner moving against the bed.
The trade-off: the stacking inserts help only if you haul loads that use them, and the drop-in cautions above still apply
Before ordering, select your vehicle on the maker’s page; it ships vehicle-specific instructions with the liner
3. Herculiner HCL1B8 Roll-On Bed Liner Kit
Best for: a classic DIY roll-on coating on a 6-foot bed
Herculiner calls this the original do-it-yourself roll-on bed liner: a textured polyurethane coating with rubber granules, applied with the rollers and brush in the kit. The kit holds one gallon, an application brush, two rollers and a roller handle. Herculiner says one gallon covers a 6-foot bed in two coats and that an 8-foot bed needs an extra quart.
The instructions call for two coats, one to four hours apart, with the second coat curing for 24 hours. Herculiner says it can be applied between 32 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit, must be applied in a well-ventilated area, and is a permanent application once dry. It also says the coating adheres to itself, so damaged sections can be recoated.
The trade-off: it is solvent-based, so prep and cleanup use solvents, and it cannot be removed once it cures
Before ordering, measure the bed; buy the extra quart up front if it is an 8-foot bed
4. Herculiner Professional Grade Bed Liner Kit HCL2K8
Best for: a two-part coating you can spray or roll, sized for an 8-foot bed
HCL2K8 is Herculiner’s two-component kit: four bottles of liner and a bottle of hardener, plus a spray gun and two rollers. Herculiner says it can be sprayed or rolled, covers an 8-foot truck bed in one coat, dries in 4 hours and is fully cured after 24 hours. That makes it the pick for a long bed or for owners who want to spray rather than roll.
The trade-off: a two-part product adds a mixing step, and spraying adds masking and overspray control
Before ordering, plan where you will spray and confirm the kit’s current instructions for mixing and working time
5. Dupli-Color Bed Armor Truck Bed Coating Kit BAK2010
Best for: a water-based, low-odor roll-on coating
Bed Armor is a water-based, rubberized polyurethane with a textured black satin finish, and Dupli-Color describes it as easy to use and low odor. The kit includes a gallon of coating, a roller cover and frame, a roller tray, a trim brush, a scuff pad, a stir stick and an instruction booklet. Dupli-Color rates coverage at 16 to 18 square feet per quart, recommends two to three coats, and sells quarts separately for larger beds.
Application conditions are tighter than Herculiner’s: Dupli-Color says to apply between 60 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit, when humidity is low. Its prep steps start with removing the tailgate and its hinge arms or cables, then cleaning, degreasing, masking and scuffing.
The trade-off: the narrower temperature window can limit when you can do the job
Before ordering, check the forecast for a warm, dry stretch and estimate whether your bed needs an extra quart
How to choose between a drop-in and a roll-on
Removable or permanent. A drop-in comes out; Herculiner describes its roll-on as permanent once dry. If you lease the truck or may want the bare bed later, a drop-in keeps that option.
Exact fit for drop-ins. Drop-in parts change with bed options, not just bed length. DuraLiner’s guide lists different parts for beds with and without cargo management, bed lights and power outlets. Use the maker’s fit tool and record every bed option before ordering.
Tonneau covers and racks. If you run a clamp-on tonneau cover or bed rack, check how the liner meets the bed rail. Extang’s tonneau installation instructions, for example, say not to clamp only to the lip of a bedliner. Penda says its liners can be altered during installation to work with tonneau covers, storage boxes and cargo racks. Our rail caps and rack clamps guide covers the clamp side of that check.
Drop-in cautions. Rugged Liner warns that static electricity can cause an explosion of flammable liquid, vapor or gas in a vehicle, and says to always place a fuel container on the ground before filling it. It also notes that wet liners can be slippery. Recheck that the liner is secure before trips.
Prep and weather for roll-ons. Both coating makers call for a cleaned, degreased and scuffed surface. Herculiner says to leave no glossy areas and to wipe down with xylene, acetone or MEK. Plan around temperature: Herculiner lists 32 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit and Dupli-Color 60 to 95 degrees, and Herculiner says colder, drier conditions slow curing.
Coverage. Check coverage against your bed before buying. Herculiner HCL1B8 covers a 6-foot bed in two coats and needs an extra quart for 8 feet, HCL2K8 covers an 8-foot bed in one coat, and Bed Armor is rated per quart.
FAQ
Can a drop-in liner go over a spray-in liner?
Penda says its bedliners can be installed over spray-on coatings. Check the fit guide for your truck either way.
How long after rolling on a liner can I load the bed?
Herculiner says HCL1B8 is fully cured in 24 hours, and HCL2K8 dries in 4 hours with a full cure after 24 hours. Follow the instructions for the exact product you buy.
Can I fix a damaged roll-on liner?
Herculiner says its roll-on adheres to itself, so a damaged section can be recoated.
