Inspect the edge and the load together
Run a finger and visual check over the strap, then follow it from anchor to buckle and across every contact edge. A protector should stay between the webbing and the edge without slipping out. Tighten only enough to secure the load according to the instructions; do not crush or deform cargo.
After a short initial trip, stop safely and recheck movement, abrasion, and buckle position. Replace damaged webbing rather than covering it.
