The short answer
Salt air makes ordinary maintenance more important, but cleaning is not a strength test. Rinse and dry as the manufacturer allows, then inspect fasteners, pads, rails, and tower interfaces. Corrosion hidden under a clamp or inside a channel can matter more than a cosmetic spot on the bar.
Inspect the salt traps

Do not mix cleaners, force a seized fastener, or carry a load while a critical attachment is questionable. Keep records of inspection dates and replacement parts, especially when the rack stays installed year-round.
